Noise from highway traffic – 70 decibels
Earplugs recommended for prolonged exposure at this level – 85 decibels
Lawn mower, ATV, power tools – 90 decibels
Loud rock concert, car horn – 115 decibels
Fireworks, jet engine takeoff – 150 decibels
Sound of a shotgun – 140-170 decibels
Anything above 85 decibels can cause permanent damage.
